Lewis Bohannon, born in Virginia c. 1783, was the next to last of eight children born to William Bohannon and his second wife, Judith Legg Bohannon. His father, William Bohannon had another family of eight children by his first wife who died c. 1772. Some of these children were very young when their mother died and Judith probably raised them along with her own eight children. Not all of the first family accompanied the large William Bohannon family that moved to Tennessee, c. 1809 to settle on the land granted to William for service in the Revolutionary War. Although already married, son Lewis and wife Lucy Bohannon did move with the William Bohannon family to White County. Not much is known of the life of Lewis and his wife Lucy Lowry Bohannon. They married c. 1804, in Virginia. They were the parents of ten children (Elijah was the third born). They lived the remainder of their lives in White County, on land belonging to Lewis's father William Bohannon. Lewis died in 1853 and Lucy in 1859. Records are on file in White County regarding the disposition of land and personal property of Lewis Bohannon, along with court records providing for the care of Lucy Bohannon, referred to as the "deaf and dumb" widow of Lewis Bohannon. Of the ten children born to Lewis and Lucy Bohannon, the oldest (should be youngest) son, James remained in White County and was executor of his father's estate. He also puchased the shares of land inherited by his brothers, William, Elijah, Lewis (II) and his sister Rebecca Bohannon McBride, all of whom had migrated first to Illinois, then to Missouri before the death of their parents. The brothers and sister who settled in Missouri never returned to Tennessee, but a letter written in 1859 to his brother James in Tennessee is filed with the legal papers of Elijah Bohannon in the Laclede County, Mo. courthouse. Catherine (Henry) Bohannon Mansell was the 2nd wife of David Mansell, and her daughter, Rosa, was his stepdaughter, whom he brought up as his own. Rosa was born 25 December 1851, and she married John W. Sliger 10 Dec 1868. Their son, Lewis A. Sliger, was born 26 Sept 1869, and Rosa died the same day.
