Lester was born March 13, 1929 in Shelby, Texas to the late Alfred and Ila (Hutto) Phillips. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 9, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lester is a graduate of Paris High School, and later worked at AMP. He joined the U.S. Army in 1947 and served as an Artillery Mechanic until 1952. After his honorable discharge, he was employed at Nabisco until his retirement as a salesman. Lester then dedicated his life to farming and fishing.

Lester married the love of his life, Billie Joyce Bartley, on June 13, 1948. They would have celebrated 70 years in a couple months. On February 13, 1956, Lester became a father to Beverly Ann Montgomery and later on June 14, 1976, to David Bryan Clifton.

Lester’s hobbies were farming, fishing, drinking coffee with farm buddies and he loved his wife in red lipstick. Lester was a hard worker who provided well for his family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He spent his life making sure everyone knew he loved them. He had a great sense of humor and gave his family lots of laughs.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Alfred, John, Hurbert, Raymond and James.

He is survived by his loving wife, Billie; daughter, Beverly Montgomery; son, David Clifton; grandson, Jeremy Williams; granddaughter, Shannon Hauber; and 8 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 12, at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 13, at Connor Cemetery in Dike, Texas. Mr. Ken Mullins will officiate. Pallbearers will be David Clifton, Jeff Forman, Jeremy Williams, Sam Williams, Shannon Hauber, and Dylan Clifton-Gray.
