Sarah Grasty Ledford, 94, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Maggie Messer Grasty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rowe Ledford, who died in 1986; her sons, Jerry and Troy Ledford; two sisters, Martha Boring and Hilda Russell; and a brother, James Grasty. Sarah was the bookkeeper for the family trucking business, Ledford Trucking for many years. She also served as a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary at Haywood Regional Hospital for 27 years, recording over 11, 000 hours of service. Sarah was blessed with a host of loving friends and family who enjoyed her deviled eggs and egg salad on many occasions. For many years she could be seen walking around Lake Junaluska at sunrise or sunset depending on the season. She loved to travel and visit friends in Florida. When her health declined preventing her from living alone she moved to Silver Bluff Village. She was a long time member of White Oak Baptist Church and later joined Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church in Ratcliff Cove when she could no longer drive over the mountain on Sunday mornings.

Sarah is survived by one granddaughter, Maggie Dawn Ledford; three sisters, Mary Jo Grasty, of Canton, Frances Clark and Effie Donaldson (Wayne), all of Waynesville; two brothers, Fred Grasty (June), of Waynesville and Billy Grasty (JoAnn), of Richmond, Virginia; two very special friends, Richard Ford, of Waynesville and Barbara Coulthurst-Rotunda, of Mayo, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend David Childers and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. prior at the funeral home.
