Colonel Harry L. Alderman, USMC, Ret., 79, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at his home in Burleson, Texas. He had Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Crosier Pearson Mayfield Funeral Home in Burleson. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the funeral home. A native of Clovis, California, Colonel Alderman enlisted in 1945 and served aboard the cruiser USS Huntington as part of the World War II European Occupation. He was commissioned in 1948 and fought in the Korean War which included the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. Following his return, he served as aide to Major General Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller and participated in an amphibious landing of Beirut, Lebanon in 1958. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Colonel Alderman served as executive officer of a deployed battalion. During the Vietnam War, Colonel Alderman served as commander of the Third Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines in the siege of Khe Sanh and later served as executive officer of Task Force Clearwater, a Riverine Force unit. He retired in 1974 while serving at Marine Corps Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 1973.
Colonel Alderman was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on June 13, 2007.
