ANTHON ARTHUR PERRY

BIOGRAPHY
Anthon Arthur Perry age 91 of Cedar City passed away April 7, 2017. He was born in Cedar City, Utah the only living child of George Arthur Perry and Ada Augusta Slack. He had a younger brother Irwin Slack Perry who lived only two weeks.
Anthon attended Cedar City schools graduating from Cedar City High School in 1944. Immediately after graduation Anthon joined the United States Navy and was engaged in the Battle of Okinawa driving a landing craft that transported troops and supplies. He continued his military service after World War II assisting in post-war efforts in China.
After the war efforts Anthon returned to Cedar City and renewed a relationship with Anna Mae Peterson from Parowan. They were married May 8, 1948. Anthon and Anna Mae have three children: Rick Perry (Lori) Cedar City, Greg Perry (Margaret) Cedar City, and Carla Perry Redding, California. He has nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Except for his military service, Anthon spent his entire life in Cedar City. In 1948 Anthon was hired by Southern Utah Power Company, which became California Pacific Utilities and then Utah Power and Light. He spent many years working at the Steam Plant in Cedar Canyon, and then became a lineman. He ended his career as the plant manager of the Steam Plant.
Anthon was a member of the LDS Church. He was most comfortable in the temporal side of church service. When it came to working on the Church farm or a service project Anthon was a “first responder.” He served as a ward and stake employment specialist and was a Church Service Missionary at Deseret Industries. He was a faithful home teacher with his long-time companion Elmo Orton.
Anthon was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a skilled mechanic and craftsman. Not having a lot of money, he was creative in building his own supplies: including a knife, rifle, camper and a boat.
Preceding Anthon in death are his dear wife Anna Mae, his parents George Arthur Perry and Ada Augusta Slack Perry and brother Irwin.
We would like to offer a special “thank you” to the many caregivers who helped Anthon to be comfortable in the last stage of his life. We are grateful for the Cedar City East Bench Ward for the kind support they have offered our parents through the years.
Funeral services will be held Monday April 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City Stake Center, 155 E 400 S Cedar City, Utah. Viewing will be held prior at the Stake Center from 10:00-10:50 am. Interment will be in the Parowan Cemetery under the under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
