Winfield Cadwell Sleight was born in Cato, New York 17 May 1880, the only child of Herman A. Sleight and Emma Cadwell Sleight. Winfield had two children from his first marriage in 1901 in Corning, NY to Harriet L. Wilkinson -Lucille (Lucilla) and Jerome W. His second marriage was to Ethel Estep 16 Aug 1916 and they moved from Corning, New York to Tavares, Florida around 1925 with son Frederick Winfield Sleight. After moving around the state, they eventually settled in Mt. Dora where Winfield started the Wayside Packing House to ship the fruit from his numerous citrus groves. Frederick joined him in this business after 1945 until the Wayside was sold in 1960. Win's passion was horticulture which made him a natural for his position on the Mt. Dora Park Commission in 1955 and 1958.
He and Ethel lived on Heim Road in Sylvan Shores for many years and later moved to a new home on Overlook Drive.
