BANCROFT - Jakob Chandler White, "Big Jake," joined the family of Raymond and Michelle White of Bancroft on April 13, 1979, and blessed their family until the day of his passing Tuesday, March 8, 2005, from complications of diabetes. He was born April 13, 1979 in Blackfoot. Jake was educated at North Gem, where he was active in wrestling and football. During his senior year his team took state in football and wrestling. He was a four-year seminary graduate, and was called to the Charleston, S.C., mission.

Jake received advanced education at DeVry in Phoenix, and Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he was pursuing a degree in secondary education with the hopes of being a guidance counselor. He belonged to the ISU football team but was unable to play because of his diabetes. While at ISU, he was active in the University Second Stake.

From the time he was big enough to walk, he helped his family build fences, construct buildings and complete various other projects. Jake was employed by Gem Valley Turf, was relief at Monsanto for two summers and worked for Denny Lee Tire.
