"Surrounded by family, Katherine M. Balog, died peacefully on January 28, 2007. Although born in Lorain, Ohio to Andrew and Maria Nagy on November 25, 1915, she spent her early years in Croatia. She returned to Lorain at age 16.
"Besides raising five daughters, she worked as a seamstress at Joseph & Feiss Company and Daltons and at Whittier Junior High School as a cafeteria worker. She retired from Daltons in 1982 and lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for the last ten years of her life.
"On her 90th birthday, loved ones from 9 states joined in a memorable celebration of her life. Because people were her passion, she had tenaciously maintained contact with her considerable network of family and friends and counted her blessings everyday. She was a happy spirit and a dear friend to many, eager to lend a hand and quick to forgive a slight. She loved life and enjoyed dancing, cooking, entertaining, playing cards and bunco, and gardening.
"She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and daughter, Clarice (Keesy).
"She is survived by her daughters: Stephanie of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kathleen DeMarco of Louisville, Kentucky, Elaine (Bonnie) Hibbard of Medina, Ohio, and Corinne Fogel of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Anastasia Pongraz and Francis Kralic of Croatia; and five grandchildren.
"Funeral Mass and burial was held in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, OH on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007.
"A memorial service was scheduled in Corpus Christi at a later date."
