Rebecca Stokes Mabry, aka "Ms. Becky", "Señora Mabry", "Madame Mabry", "Bucky", or "Boopy", 64, of Charlottesville, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Rebecca was known for her enviable sense of humor, warmth, and selflessness. Beautiful inside and out, Rebecca's boisterous spirit lit up every room she entered. Her unique ability to connect with everyone from students to strangers was like a gravitational pull. Her legacy of caring and compassion will live on in those who were lucky enough to have met her.

She was born on August 19, 1952, in Charlottesville to the late Dennis G. Stokes and Betty M. Stokes.

Rebecca was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Dennis M. Stokes.

She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Mabry Thomas and her husband, Matthew, of Charlottesville; her unofficial "daughter" Hillary Emery Balser of Charlottesville; her sister, Bonnie D. Stokes, of Charlottesville; and her sister-in-law, Donna M. Stokes, of Waynesboro.

In addition to spending time with her loved ones and pets, Rebecca's other joy in life was her students. In her 35+ years teaching in Albemarle and Louisa Counties, she was as touched by her students as they were by her.

A reception in Rebecca's honor will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 4 until 6 p.m. at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville. All friends, family, colleagues, and former students are welcome to make a final toast to this lively and caring woman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to two local organizations who compassionately and generously cared for Rebecca, the University of Virginia Cancer Center, get-involved.uvahealth.com/goto/rebeccamabry , and the Hospice of the Piedmont, hopva.org/donate-online-now.
