Mr. Bobby “Bob” Ray Cooper, 87, of Crosby, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 while in medical care at Kindred Hospital-Bay Area, in Pasadena, Texas. He was born September 26, 1929, to Marshall and Hettie (Williams) Cooper. Bobby was born in Goodpine, Louisiana, and remained in his home-state of Louisiana through his middle teenage years. He was born in 1929, the year of the “Stock Market Crash”, spent his early childhood growing up in the “Great Depression”, 1929-1939, and endured the effects of World War-II, 1939-1945, during his teenage years.
Bobby Ray Cooper was recruited into the US Army at age 17 in 1947 shortly after the end of WWII, and served in the US Army for two years,1947-1948, and received an Honorable Discharge in summer of 1948 at age 19. While in the US Army, Bobby Ray Cooper, served at the “Fitzsimons Army Hospital/Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center (FAMC)”, located Arora, Colorado. The FAMC was named after Lt. William T. Fitzsimmons, who was the first American Medical Officer killed in WWI. The FAMC was located on 577 acres, was opened in 1918 during WWI, and remained open until its closing in 1999.
While serving in the US Army in Arora, Colorado, Mr. Bobby Ray Cooper met and fell in love with, and married, Ms. Dolores Catherine Stoik in May 1948. After discharge from the US Army, Bobby, and his newly-wed wife Delores, traveled to his home state of Louisiana to live. After WWII it was very difficult to find work in Louisiana. So, Bobby and Delores moved to Houston, Texas where Bobby was successful in locating steady work.
Bobby underwent training and was successfully employed as an Air Condition/ Refrigeration Technician for most of his adult life. He enjoyed to work with his hands and retired at age 65. He enjoyed returning to Louisiana from time to time to see and smell the tall pine trees and reminisce of childhood/teenage hunting and fishing.
Bobby remarried on March 24, 1987 to Ms. Flora Louise Edwards of Galena Park, Texas. Bobby and Louise moved to Galena Park, Texas, and resided there for several years before moving to Crosby, Texas. Bobby and Louise enjoyed their life and home that was nestled in the tall pine trees in Crosby, Texas…….I think it reminded Bobby of his boyhood days in the tall pines in Louisiana.
Mr. Bobby Ray Cooper is survived by four of his five daughters; Brenda Cooper Cryer, Judie Cooper Haynes, Dianne Cooper Watt, and Rita Cooper Cusack, and his son Raymond M. Cooper (from marriage to Dolores Cooper); as well as eleven grandchildren; Shannon Cooper Lee, Lisa Haynes, Matt Haynes, Kimberly Wilborn, Angela Wilborn, Christopher Cusack, Meagan Cusack, Lindsey Dulaney, Casandra Moon, Daniel Standley, and Audrey Victoria Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Hettie (Williams) Cooper, and his wife Flora Louise Cooper (Edwards), who passed away in January 2017.
Mr. Bobby Ray Cooper is also survived by Flora Louise Cooper (Edwards) two sons (by previous marriage); Mr. Calvin Edwards, and Mr. Dennis Edwards, of Crosby, Texas.
Of my Dads life-long work, efforts, and accomplishments, the most important decision he ever made, was the day he humbled himself before our GOD in heaven, confessed his sins to GOD, asked for forgiveness, and Accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 87 in 2017.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 6:00pm Saturday, April 8, at Niday Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:15am Monday, April 10, at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Cooper’s name may be directed to Sagemont Church.
