Fredericton, March 5 - the funeral of John S. COVERT, M.P. took place at Maugerville (Sunbury Co.) this afternoon. The pall bearers were James HAMILTON, Thomas A. BECKWITH, W. Dell PERLEY, R.D. WILMOT, jr., Gerhardus CLOWES and A.A. STERLING, Esq. (see original) from PANB

John S. COVERT, M.P.P. for Sunbury Co. died at the Queen Hotel, Fredericton Thursday morn. On the previous morning he occupied his accustomed place in the Assembly and made a speech in support of Blair's resolutions. He was feeling poorly Thursday (sic) eve., but after tea returned to the House to record his vote. Thursday morn. Mr. GILLESPIE went into the room in the Hotel occupied by Mr. Covert and was greatly shocked to find him lying face downward to the floor dead. John S. Covert was the son of late George E. COVERT of Maugerville. In 1869 he was elected to the Assembly in his native County and has continued to hold the seat uninterruptedly to the time of his decease. Mr. Covert was twice married, first to Miss MOWATT d/o Col. David MOWATT of St. Andrews (Charlotte Co.), by whom he had no living issue. His first wife died in 1862 and in 1864 Mr. Covert married a d/o late John HARRIS of Portland (St. John) by whom he had three children, two girls and one boy, all living.
