NOTRE DAME - Virginia Houser Morrow, a long standing resident of South Bend Indiana passed away peacefully of natural causes at Quinn Memory Care, Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in her memory, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm. at First Unitarian Church, 801 E. Washington, South Bend, Indiana.

Virginia was born October 28, 1923 in Delaware Ohio. She graduated from North High School, Clintonville, Ohio in 1941. During college Virginia performed around the country with her “Singing Strings” trio (performing in USO shows). She also was a member of the Columbus Philharmonic as a violist. Virginia graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Music Education in 1945. She received a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Notre Dame in 1970.

After college she began teaching music at a country school near her home. She met and married Jack Hanna Morrow in Columbus Ohio in 1946. They moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1949.

Virginia was music director at First Unitarian Church of South Bend for 50+ years and the longest serving member of the Indiana University South Bend Associate Faculty. For 42 years she taught studio voice, voice classes, voice pedagogy and sight-singing. She retired from IUSB in the spring of 2010.

Virginia spent her adult life nurturing and teaching people of all ages in the field of music. It was truly her life's passion and work. She received numerous awards and recognition for her dedication.

Virginia is survived by a brother, Lyle Houser of Rockledge, Fl., her four adult children, Michael Morrow and his wife Judy of Pittsboro, NC, Diana Morrow Howard and her husband David, of Dakota Dunes, SD, Bruce Morrow and his wife Paula of Granger, Indiana, and Elizabeth Morrow-Pratt and her husband Chuck of Arlington, TX; six grandchildren -Christopher (Brook) Howard, Kelli Howard, Tyson Morrow(Vera Castro) Jenni (Steve) Getz, Melissa (Dan) Gearhart, and Morgan Pratt. Four great-grandchildren - Jason Darrough, Renzo Getz, Porter, Reed, and Luke Howard. She is also survived by a loving niece and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her dear sister, Marilyn Houser Richards and her beloved husband Jack Hanna Morrow.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the resilient and compassionate staff of Holy Cross Village (especially Quinn Memory Care Unit) for their dedicated care of Virginia over the past 9 years.
