Carl N. Bender, 87, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Nitro, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017.
He was the son of Mehrel A. and Anne Woods Bender, deceased. Carl was raised by his guardian parents, Frank W. and Dora Woods. Carl was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1946-1949 and 1950-1952. He attended Nitro High School and was an engineering graduate of WVU. He was an employee of Monsanto Co. in Nitro and St Louis. Mo., for several years in his early career. He was an active member of St. Pauls Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, two sons, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Patsy McGuinness.
Funeral service will be held at Toale Bros. Funeral Home, Sarasota, Fla., on Tuesday, April 11. Burial will follow at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
