RICHARDS - Frank A. "Cannonball." 1520 Appleton St., born 81 years ago in Kansas and died Friday. Survived by sister, Miss Rose May Richards and brother Edwin H. Richards, both of Long Beach and nephews Owen G. Richards and Delmas Richards. He was a Veteran of World War I; Member of American Legion Post 27; member of the Presbyterian Church of Pomona, California. Since prior to 1924 Cannonball Richards lived in the Theatrical World and his stage act was shown nationwide in dozens of Newsreels from time to time containing pictures of him being struck in the solar plexus with an 18 pound sledgehammer, his 100 pound cannonball and with a 4"x4" battering rams. During World War II he gave free shows at various Legion meetings and at many military camps from the Santa Barbara Area to San Diego as well as at various Elks Clubs and was acquainted with most all of the old-time boxing champions such as Jim Jeffries, Jack Johnson, Ad Wolgast, Joe Rivers, Jack Dempsey, Jesse Willard, and Joe Lewis.
Services are being held at the Dilday Funeral Home at 11 a.m, on Tuesday, February 11th and interment is to be in the Pomona Valley Cemetery at Pomona, California. Family suggests Memorial donations to Student Aid Fund of B.L.O.L.A.
