WOODVILLE, July — The Rev. L. A. Simmons will conduct funeral services at 4 p. m. Saturday at Bethany Church near Colmesneil for George Richard Downing, 78, who died Friday morning at his home at Bethany. Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home will direct burial at Bethany Cemetery.

Downing Funeral Held at Bethany
Funeral services were held Saturday at Bethany Church for George Richard Downing, 78, with Rev. T. A. Simmons officiating. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery. Oakley-Metcalf were in charge of arrangements.
Downing, a widely known farmer and and cattleman died Friday morning at his home in the Bethany Community. He was a member of the Christian Church. A native of Kentucky, he moved to Texas as a young man. He moved to Oklahoma and later moved back to Texas. He had lived near Colmesneil for about 14 years.
Pallbearers were H B McNeil, ____ Irvine, Leon Tillery, ____ Comte, Huey Marshall, and Craig Marshall.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, George S, Joe M, and Hugh B, all of Colmesneil, five daughters, Mrs. R A Jernigan of Woodville, Mrs. J V Crews and Mrs. C B Brooks of San Bernadine, CA, Mrs. J E Paregien of Watson, OK, and Mrs. W F Ripley of Nederland, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
