Joyce M. Combs Riley, 76, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Memorial Hospital. A chef, bartender and server, she was a former associate of Marysville Country Club and Marysville Elks Lodge. She enjoyed traveling abroad with her daughter. Their most joyous destination together was to Ireland in 2001. Her other journeys included Prince Edward Island, Canada and Frankenmuth, Michigan. She liked writing poetry and won Golden Poet Awards for her creativity. She enjoyed painting, reading, thrift stores and keeping current with the news. She also enjoyed excursions to Piatt Castle and Malabar Farm where she attended plays inspired by the books of Louis Bromfield. An extraordinary mother, she was deeply devoted to her daughter and family. She was born March 28, 1941 in Irwin, Ohio to the late Crit Combs and Elsie Williams Combs Mills. She was also preceded in death by two infant brothers, Jackie and Gary; her sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Carl Calaski; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Owens. She is survived by her daughter, Terri Ward of Marysville; her siblings, Jerry (Betsy) Combs of Zanesville, Darlene Owens of Marysville and Chris (Sue) Combs of Raymond; her beloved nieces and nephews; her many dear great-nieces and nephews; and friends. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held following the calling hours at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County Humane Society.
