176th Regiment, New York Infantry
Jerome L. Bishop, who had been at the Bliss Sanitarium in Owosso since last January, died at that place last Thursday. The remains were brought to St. Johns and the funeral service was held at the Methodist Church Saturday at 2 o'clock, Rev. James B. Pinckard officiating. Interment was made in St.Johns Cemetery.
Mr. Bishop was born in Bouckville, Madison County, New York,January 15, 1835.He was the oldest of seven children, only one of whom, Charles E. Bishop, of DeSota, is living.
When the war of the rebellion broke out,he enlisted as a soldier in the Union Army. After his discharge he came to Michigan and bought a piece of land in Essex Township which he improved and changed into a productive farm. Four years ago last spring he removed from Essex to St.Johns where he lived until his health failed, then he was taken to Owosso for treatment.
Mr.Bishop had been a Christian for many years and at the time of his death was a member of the M.E.Church. His departure takes from us another one of the settlers of Clinton County.
He leaves besides his brother, a number of distant relatives.
