Dr. Bergon F. Brokaw, 83, of Leesburg, Florida died Friday, August 27, 2004. Mr. Brokaw was a retired Family Physician. Born in Litchfield, Illinois. He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church. He grew up in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a Navy Veteran for 19 years starting in 1938. He was a Navy Pilot, left in his 19th year to go to Medical School. After which he moved to Leesburg to open his medical practice in 1960 until his retirement. Prior to retiring, he built and flew many airplanes, the most famous was the Brokaw Bullet, now on display at the Lakeland Air Museum. He was a member of the Navy Silver Eagles, and Navy PBY Black Cat Squadron. He was a member of the Experimental Aviation Association. He attended Tulane University and graduated from the University of Miami Medical School. While in the service, he attended and graduated Naval Intelligence School. Survivors include his Wife, Evalyn H. “Miz Buddy” Brokaw of Leesburg, FL; Son Bergon Frank Brokaw, II; Brother Elbert Brokaw of Oveido, FL; Sister Margie Mills of St. Petersburg, FL; Grandson Barry Lee Brokaw II; Granddaughter Anna Kay Brokaw; Daughter-in-law Betty Pyburn of Sorrento, FL; Extended Family Charles & Winnie Tucker and Tucker Family; Ray and Judy Phelps. He was preceded in death by his Son, Barry Lee Brokaw. Memorial Services for Dr. Bergon F. Brokaw will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Morrison United Methodist Church with Reverend McCoy Gibbs Officiating.
