John Lloyd Akins, 77, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 12, 1938, the son of Walter and Marge (Gothard) Akins.

John is survived by his Wife of 57 years - Marilyn (Lucas) Akins of Battle Creek, Michigan; Son, John K (Sherry) Akins of East Leroy, MI; Two Daughters, Connie L (Phillip) Akins East Leroy; Virginia (Kevin) Burdett of Battle Creek, MI; Four Grandsons, Michael (Angie) Akins of Jackson, MI, Alex Akins of Battle Creek, MI, Phillip Bent of East Leroy, MI, Travis Bent of East Leroy, MI; Three Granddaughters, Michelle Akins of East Leroy, MI, Heather Hayes of Battle Creek, MI, Amy Akins of Battle Creek, MI; Two Great Granddaughters Katelyn "Little Lady" Keller of East Leroy, MI, Rebecca "Maddy" Keller of East Leroy, MI, Three Great Grandsons Tristin "TK" Keller of East Leroy, MI, Nathan "Buddy" Keller of East Leroy, MI, Charles "Charlie" Mauk of Battle Creek, MI. He was preceded in death by his Father (Walter Akins), Mother (Marge Akins),Brother (William Akins), Sister (Joby Butine), Sister (Joyce Carr).

John was a small physical man who cast a big shadow. He was a real family man making sure to look out for all family including in-laws, grandchildren and friends. He was a tremendous role model, carefully watching his grandchildren. John was a dedicated Nascar enthusiast. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing with his family, especially with his grandchildren. The Detroit Red Wings was his favorite hockey team and he thoroughly enjoyed watching old westerns on TV.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Springfield Assembly of God, 764 Upton Ave., on Saturday, May 14, 2016, 1:00 pm with Pastor Mark Crowe of officiating.
