Bonnie Jean Atwood of Ellisville, MS died on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, MS at the age of 75.

She was born Nov. 19, 1941 in Ellisville to Bernice and Clayton Walters. She was previously married to Clayton Wayne Atwood of Houston, TX, and they had two children, Kelly and Carson. Years later, she attended JCJC to receive training for an office job at Ellisville State School, from which she later retired. She attended New Hope Baptist Church and was a very caring person who loved people and felt that love in return. Her generosity also extended to animals of all kinds throughout her life.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 1 at Ellisville Funeral Home from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with graveside services following at the Ellisville Cemetery. Rev. Rudolph Sims and Rev. Greg Ducker will officiate.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Walters, mother, Bernice Walters; sister, Charlene Sims; and brother, Jerry Walters. She is survived her daughter Kelly Atwood Farris (Russ); son Carson Atwood (Julie) and one granddaughter, Kate Atwood, all of Ellisville; one sister, Janelle Bush (Larry) of Bartlett, TN and brother, Joe Walters (Vicki) of Ellisville; and her close friend, Bobby Walters, also of Ellisville. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be Toby Bush, Jason Cooley, Steve Cooley, Clay Walters, Ernie Cooke, L.C. Smith, Rusty Tisdale and Brent Culpepper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southern Cross Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 2007 Laurel, MS 39442.
