Jim was born Jan. 2, 1945, in Danville to John Ralph and Inez M. Larren Boyd. He attended Tilton Grade School, graduated from Danville High School in 1963 and attended Danville Junior College.
He worked on the railroad before going to work for Central Foundry in Tilton in 1965. He was transferred to Defiance, Ohio, with General Motors and retired in 2001.
Even though he was a GM employee, he still loved his Ford Mustangs. He was a former member of Tilton Church of Christ and the UAW Local 579. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed NASCAR and the Beach Boys. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim married Christine Louise Montgomery on Nov. 4, 1967, in Danville, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Matthew (Teri) Boyd of Rantoul; a daughter, Regan (John) Hutson of Danville; four grandchildren, Tyler James Boyd, Aidan Joseph Boyd, Connor Wesley Hutson and Cooper Boyd Hutson; and two brothers, Don (Mary) Boyd and John "Jay" (Nancy) Boyd, both of Westville. He was preceded by his parents and a sister, Linda Lee Brown.
