One of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Lowell, at the time of his death. Funeral was Saturday, 6 Jan 1872 at St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church. He was very active in Freemasons, and upon his death the lodge was named William North Lodge. The procession of Masons was the largest and most impressive in many years. His 3rd wife died just a few days later. They both died of pneumonia. He came to Lowell in 1835, and remained for the rest of his life.
3 wives...1st, Laura Hyde married 30 Aug 1817 and died 10 Dec 1847....2nd Asenath Mills married 14 Dec 1848 and died 16 Oct 1868....3rd Eliza George Dennett married on 21 Oct 1869 and died 7 Jan 1872, four days after he died.
He was a "dyer" by trade and from his success it appears he owned and was employed in the textile mills to color fabric prior to weaving.
