Ida Ruth (Tate) Newman was born August 22, 1935, was welcomed into the bosom of the Lord on November 11, 2016, the same date in 1952 that she gave birth to her one and only child. She was born in Prairie Point, MS, the daughter of Sherrod and Emma Bell (Clark) White.

In 1952, she married the love of her life, L.B. Tate and to that union one child was born--Isabell (Tate) Martin. In the 70's, Ida worked as a machine operator at Shakespeare, until she remarried in 1980 to Richard C. Newman and moved to Chicago. Both husbands preceded her in death.

As a child in Mississippi, Ida accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. After moving to Kalamazoo, she became a long time member of Galilee Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board. When she returned to Kalamazoo in 2003, she joined First United Baptist Church, there she served for a short time in the Mission Ministry.
