In 1952, she married the love of her life, L.B. Tate and to that union one child was born--Isabell (Tate) Martin. In the 70's, Ida worked as a machine operator at Shakespeare, until she remarried in 1980 to Richard C. Newman and moved to Chicago. Both husbands preceded her in death.
As a child in Mississippi, Ida accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. After moving to Kalamazoo, she became a long time member of Galilee Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board. When she returned to Kalamazoo in 2003, she joined First United Baptist Church, there she served for a short time in the Mission Ministry. Ida's hobbies were simple she loved washing, cleaning and helping other people.
Along with her parents and husbands, Ida is preceded in death by her brothers: Wilford, Cleophus, Sherrod Jr., Willie, David, Amos Sr., and Rev. Nathaniel White Sr.; and one sister, Isabell Stevenson.
Left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Isabell (John) Martin of Kalamazoo, MI; one brother, Robert (Minnie) White) of Kalamazoo, MI; three sisters, Quince (Willie) Tate of Prairie Point, MS, Mard Nabors an Augusta White both of Kalamazoo, MI. She also leaves to cherish her memory, a granddaughter, Kimberly Nicole Martin; a great grandson, Christopher Evan Martin both of Kalamazoo, MI; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
