Tommy Gene Wood, 57 of McCamey, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Midland Memorial Hospital Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the East Side Baptist Church in McCamey with Reverend Murray Sauders officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Tommy was born on July 12, 1951 in Abilene, Texas. He and his wife Laura married on May 6, 1988 in Odessa. He was a longtime resident of Abilene and Odessa; and had moved to McCamey one year ago. He was a member of the East Side Baptist Church and he was an Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Wood of McCamey; two sons, Virgil McKee of McCamey, and Wesley McKee of Cisco; his mother, Martha Wood of McCamey; one sister, Ann Gunter of McCamey; and three brothers, Bruce Wood of Monahans, Preston Wood of Gatesville, and James David Perry of California; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as 2 nieces, 1 nephew; 3 aunts; 1 uncle; 6 great-nieces; 4 great-nephews; 1 great-great niece; 1 great-great nephew; 1 brother-in-law; 2 sister-in-laws; and 2 daughter-in-laws.
