Born in Russell County, he had lived in Blacksburg, Bluefield, Norfolk and Roanoke, returning to Russell County in 1988. He was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Gentry Absher, Lebanon; one daughter, Brenda A., Gibson, Lebanon; one son, Sid F. Absher, Fairmont, W.Va.; three sisters, Viola Shelton, Salem, Willie Hutton, New Castle, Fannie Spence, Blacksburg; one brother, William Absher, Blacksburg; and four grandsons.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke with Dr. Tony Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
