Martha H. Saavedra de De la Cruz, 68, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2017 after a difficult battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Martha was born on February 23, 1949 in Sonora, Mexico to Eufemia Benitez and Jesus Saavedra. She was the 2nd of 5 children.
Martha married Andres De la Cruz de Lara on January 25, 1971 and was sealed in the Meza, Arizona Temple on October 27, 1971. She is survived by her children Andres De la Cruz, Claudia Cardenas (Jose Guillermo), Marita Hernandez (Jesus), Moises De la Cruz (Jill), Niza Bello (Fernando), Ruth De la Cruz, Isaac De la Cruz (Gretel), Sara Castillo (Luis), Abish Quintana (Eduardo) and 35 grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded by her parents, her siblings Ruben, Mario, Damasio, and Feliciano, and her husband Andres.
Martha’s main love was God and her family. Throughout her life, she was always doing acts of kindness for others. She loved being part of the Relief Society at the LDS church because it provided a way for her to look after the needy. Martha was always involved in her children’s life and accomplishments, she could often be found sewing a dress or baking a cake for a birthday or even a wedding of one of her children. When a new baby would arrive to the family, Martha always made time to spend the first couple of weeks taking care of mom and baby.
In her later years, Martha worked as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple, where she made many friends. We can only imagine how glorious her reception will be at the other side of the veil, filled with many loved ones and the multitudes of people that she served throughout her life.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 6 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery on 6500 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, UT 84123. Funeral will be held Friday, April 7 at 11:00am at the LDS Chapel on 4300 W 4715 S, Kearns, UT 84118.
