Joseph "Joe" J. Cerrato, 77, of Enfield, died peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield on August 21, 1929, Joseph was the son of the late Raphael J. and Lillian D. (Rossi) Cerrato. A lifelong resident of Enfield, Joe was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. He was a graduate of Enfield High School. A former employee of Bigelow-Sanford, Joseph was a local businessman. He was the owner of Enfield Sports Center, co-owner of the 190 East Lounge and Stateline Package Store. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Rinaldi-Fede Italian-American War Veteran's Post 17 and a member of the North Central CT Chamber of Com-merce. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the Army Occupation Medal. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling and playing cards and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants.

A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Frances A. (Gourinski) Cerrato; his children, Mark J. Cerrato of Enfield, Richard A. Cerrato and his wife Susan of Enfield and Sandra J. Johnson and her husband Donald of Wolcott; his step-son, James E. Doyle of Vernon; his brother, Ralph J. Cerrato and his wife Claire of Enfield; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jason, Michael and Darriel Cerrato and Jennifer and Melissa Martin and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Prudence E. (Porcello) Cerrato who died in 1976.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, by 9 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels for a procession to St. Patrick Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, February 5, 2007, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road.
