Julia Simon Zweber, age 90, of New Prague, died peacefully after a short illness surrounded by her family, at Mayo Clinic Health System New Prague on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Julia was born December 16, 1925 in Cedar Lake Township, Scott County to Frank J. and Christina (Tuma) Svoboda. She grew up in the St. Catherine area and attended Most Holy Trinity Catholic School in Veseli. She married Walter R. Simon on November 6, 1945 at St. Catherine Church and the couple were blessed with 8 children on their farm by Veseli. After Walter's death on November of 1973, Julia worked as a cook for the New Prague School System in addition to raising her family. She married Raymond Zweber on January 26, 2002. Julia was a very social person, enjoying cards but most especially, her family and friends.
Julia is survived by her children, Roger (Carol) Simon of New Prague, Gary (Shirley) Simon of New Prague, Karen (Phil) Kallal of New Prague, Marvin "Butch" (Deb) Simon of Webster, Ken (Gertie) Simon of Burnsville, Judy Simon (Mike Fox) of Edmonds, WA, Joyce (Scott) Cassidy of New Prague, Tom (Amber) Simon of Maple Lake; sisters, Marion Simon of New Prague, Evelyn (Lloyd) Ambroz of New Prague; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; Ray's family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter Simon & Raymond Zweber; grandson, Marc Simon; brothers, Edwin and Francis Svoboda.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli with Father John Lapensky officiating. Visitation will take place Thursday from 4-8 PM and Friday morning from 7:30-9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. John's Cemetery in Veseli and lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
