Mr. Troy Delk Evans, 92, of Winona passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at his temporary home at Winona Manor in Winona, surrounded by his family whom he adored.
Mr. Evans was born in Sunflower County on March 19, 1925, to Roland and Beulah Porter Evans. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having enlisted on July 27, 1945. On May 3, 1947, he married Katherine King. They were married for 55 years, making their home in Winona. Mr. Evans was a terminal manager for Campbells 66 Express and Freeman Truck Lines, where he retired in 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine King Evans; one sister; and four brothers.
Mr. King is survived by two loving daughters, Kathy Evans King (Wayne) and Tammy Evans Spence (Ricky), all of Winona; grandson, Joey Bennett (Teressa) of Grenada; granddaughter, Angela Spence Gordon of Winona; three great-grandchildren, Katie Beth, Spence Allen, and Jacob Britt; one sister, Lizzie Mae Archie (James) of Meridian; brother-in-law, Kenneth King (Frances) of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at North Winona Baptist Church, with Bro. Ed McDaniel, Bro. John L. Walker, and Bro. Kenneth Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, with military rites at graveside.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 4, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home; and on Wednesday, from 12:00 noon until service time, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Braswell, Troy Mitchell, Don Hodges, Mitch King, Mike Woods, Terry Woods, Danny Woods, and Ken King. Honorary pallbearers will be Hurschel Braswell, R. B. King, Carlton Parsons, Charlie Upchurch, Colon Woods, Billy Ferguson, Chuck Sheffield, Dr. Keith Rushing, Benny Chambley, Marion Bishop, and Garland Collins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Winona Baptist Church, 602 Alberta Drive, Winona, MS 38967.
