At Cedar Rapids, lowa, April 23, 1897, Mr. John A. Sturtz, at the age of 79 years 10 months and 11 days. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church of Greene, Iowa, on Sunday, April 25th, sermon by Rev P S Davies on the text, Matth. 13.28, "An Enemy Hath Done This " The remains were laid in the German Baptist cemetery near Greene.

"Mr John Sturtz, whose mortal re­mains are in our presence here today, was born in Summerset county, Penn­sylvania, June 12, 1817. He was mar­ried to Susan Troutman in 1836. They raised a family of nine children, seven of whom survive him and are present here today—Rebecca, Sarah, Adam, Ellen, Jacob, Charles and Frank.
The family moved into Iowa in Au­gust, 1858, and settled in Butler county, where they resided until 1872, when they removed into, and lived in, Missouri for about four years. The family came back to Butler county, and after a few years moved to Cedar Rapids in 1887, where Mr Sturtz died on the 23rd of April, 1897, (last Friday)
Mr. Sturtz was a christian and a member of the Lutheran church until his first removal to Iowa, where he be­came a member of the Presbyterian church of Greene, near the time of its organization, some 35 years ago. Mr Sturtz died as a christian in the membership of this church at the ripe age of 79 years, 10 months and 11 days. D".

The relatives of the late John A Sturtz wish to express their thanks for the kind assistance and sympathy of friends during the sickness and at the funeral of their departed kinsman.
