Robert was born in North Dakota to Norwegian immigrant parents. His mother's name was Karen Ronning. His mother was born 27 Jul 1844 and died on 17 Jun 1933. He had lived on the farm with her after she was widowed along with siblings Olai Ronning, Hans Christian Ronning, Ovedia Ronning and Robert Ronning. These four children showed in the 1900 census. By the 1910 census it was only Christian and Robert at home doing the farming in Norway Township of Ramsey County, ND. He was married to Agnes Ellingson on 24 Nov 1937 in Maddock. They were the parents of three daughters. Mrs. Randall (Julie) Talbot, Mrs. Larry (Karen) Alm and Mrs. Ron (Roberta) Soper. Funeral services were conducted on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in St. Olaf Lutheran church for Robert Ronning, 79, of Devils Lake, ND. He died on Monday evening in Mercy Hospital. Rev. E. L. Rude officiated at the services and interment was in the family plot in the Big Coulee Church Cemetery. Mr. Ronning was born in Grand Forks County on 17 Mar 1885 the son of Ole and Karen Rassisdatter Ronning. While a young boy, his parents homesteaded in Pelican Township west of Devils Lake in Ramsey County and he received his education in Pelican Township schools. Robert and his wife, Agnes, farmed his parents farm until they retired in 1959 and moved to Devils Lake. He was a member of the Big Coulee Lutheran Church and served on the church board of trustees and was a Pelican township supervisor for many years. He was president of the cemetery board, a member of the church building committee and a member of the Crofton Lodge No 3, I. O. O. F. of Devils Lakes. Pallbearers were Leonard Nestegard, Otto Nestegard, Leo Nestegard, Helmer Nestegard, Albert Bye and Donald Tollefson.
