Isabel (sometimes seen as Elizabeth) ‘Lizzie’ Moore was the daughter of James and Ellender Hamilton Moore. There is some confusion as to whether Lizzie’s name is ‘Isabel’ or ‘Elizabeth’. It appears interchangeably in the various records. Her name is listed as ‘Lizzie’ on daughter Rachel’s death certificate. Those familiar with her must have called her that. Records indicate Lizzie was born in Kentucky around 1898 or 1899. There are some sources that state that Lizzie was born May 2, 1800. That source may not be a public source. The actual birth date is currently undocumented. Some sources state that Lizzie was born in Mill Creek, Breathitt County, Kentucky. That information is not documented or verified. Lizzie was born in Lee County, Kentucky according to daughter, Rachel Bowman Combs’, death certificate. Both Breathitt and Lee Counties may be correct in that county lines changed several times over the years.

Isabel/Elizabeth married Nicholas B. Bowman on October 3, 1818 in Clay County, Kentucky. They became the parents of:

Isabell/Elizabeth Bowman Spencer (1820-1876)
Henry Clay Bowman (1822-1864)
Ellender Bowman Lawson (1824-?)
Lucinda Bowman Spencer (1826-1880)
Emoline Bowman Lawson (1827-1921)
John Wesley ‘Butler’ Bowman (1831-1899)
Marium Bowman Chambers (1833-1920)
Martha Bowman (1835-1853)
Deborah Jane ‘Deb’ Bowman Spencer (1838-1926)
Rachel Bowman Combs (1841-1924)
William Fletcher Bowman (1842-1863)

Some undocumented sources state that Isabel/Elizabeth and Nicholas are buried on the old farm about two mile up Lower Twin Creeks in Breathitt County. Daughter Martha, died in that area in 1853 according to Kentucky death records so that may be a valid assumption. Lizzie’s actual death date is also currently undocumented. Some sources list it as 1891. Lizzie last appears in the 1880 Census for Breathitt County, Kentucky.
