William Edward Shipley, son of the late William Claude and Wilma Irene (Turner) Shipley, was born on August 27, 1940 on his Grandparents farm in Ava, MO and departed this life on February 8, 2017 at his home near Buffalo, MO. At the time of his passing he was 76 years, 5 months, and 10 days of age.

Bill was reared and attended school in Mansfield, MO. He moved to Iowa where he met Mary Madesian, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1961 in Ava, MO by Bro. Willis. They made their home in the Quad Cities area of Iowa until 1987, when they moved to Buffalo, MO. He worked as a truck driver and mechanic for the Oscar Meyer Company, owned and operated an auction house as a licensed auctioneer in Clinton, IA, received his Doctor of Motors Certificate from Ford Motor Company, and owned an alternator and generator shop in Buffalo. Bill enjoyed racing and building race cars, skeet shooting, hunting for ducks, geese, pheasants, and deer, fishing, and taught himself how to repair antique clocks. He also loved raising and spending time with his Labs, bowling, restoring tractors, coaching flag football, and supporting his kids and grandkids in all their activities. He enjoyed spending time with his “little brother,” Gail Barns his “adopted son,” Rodney Kropf & family, and all of the rest of his Mennonite community friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shirley Ann Shipley; one brother, Walter Shipley; and one sister, Lucille Card. He is survived by his wife Mary of the home; four children, Wayne & wife Peggy Shipley of Ankeny, IA, Jan & husband Terry Hildebrandt of Buffalo, MO, Vicki Rohm of Buffalo, MO, and Barbara McIntyre of Elkland, MO; one sister, Sue & husband Kirby Kelley of Buffalo, MO; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Fraker Cemetery with Bro. Bill Autry officiating. Escorts will be Cory Hildebrandt, Cary Hildebrandt, Chris Shipley, Anthony McIntyre, Jerry Hardesty, Rodney Kropf, Arlin Hostetler, and Truman Swartzentruber.
Services are under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Prairie Grove Mennonite School or the Humane Society of Greene County and left at the Funeral Home
