JOHNSON CITY - Rebecca M. “Becky” Ferrell, 102, of Johnson City, passed over on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Cornerstone Assisted Living. Rebecca was born on September 6, 1914 at Blackie, VA. to Gilbert and Minerva Mitchell. She graduated from Magnolia High School in 1933 and married Julius Ferrell on December 23, 1933 in Williamson, WV. “Becky” was a homemaker for her family in West Virginia and Tennessee. Mrs. Ferrell was active in homemakers clubs everywhere she lived, making beautiful crafts and working on community projects as well as helping care for the needy.

In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers Cecil, Drewey and Anderson Mitchell, one sister Sylvia Mitchell, a grandson David Franklin Ferrell and a son-in-law Dennis Greenwell.

She is survived by a son Billy Franklin Ferrell and wife Sandra Ferrell of Stafford, VA and a daughter Lois Greenwell of Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Brian Mitchell Greenwell and wife Kimberly, Brenda Denise Petersen and husband Howard, Rebecca Swift and Kevin Philip Greenwell and wife Sherrie; six great grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Greenwell, Sara Alyse Jacobson and husband Kyle, Melissa Nicole Gayle, Nicholas Tanner Gayle, Kaitlyn Nicole Greenwell and Kaci Brooke Greenwell ; two great great granddaughters, Gabriela Faith Bojorquez and Charlie Hope Greenwell; two sisters Maye Ratliff and Geraldine Tanner.

“Becky” was a member of First Christian Church and a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class, and was active in Women’s Ministry, having helped with the newsletter “First Ladies” with articles and recipes. Her family gives special thanks to all of the excellent caregivers at Cornerstone Assisted living. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Christian Church, Johnson City, TN.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, with Ethan Magness, Minister and Dr. Jonathon Feathers officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. friends may also call at the home of the daughter, Lois Greenwell. The graveside service will be held at Washington County Memory Gardens following the funeral. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
