Obituary for Robert D. Bane
Robert D. Bane was born September 30, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Tommy D. and Pauline C. (Metcalf) Bane.
He was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1942. Bob farmed for a few years with his father and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1946 to 1948 and remained in reserves, returning home to Pleasantville. Bob was called back to service during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He was in combat in south and central Korea before he was honorably discharged and returned to Pleasantville.
On October 19, 1952 he was united in marriage to Beulah Anne Campbell in Toledo, Iowa. They were to become parents of two children – Joanne and Alan.
Bob farmed his entire life. He was active in the Pleasantville community, serving as School Board President. He was also an elder and a council member of the Pleasantville Christian Church. He was a 4-H leader and a proud member of the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108.
Bob and Anne were married nearly 59 years, and lived all their married life on the century farm near Pleasantville. Bob passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Taylor House, in Des Moines, at the age of 92 years.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Anne in 2011.
Those left to cherish Bob’s memory include his daughter, Joanne (Dwight) McKay of Pleasantville; son, Alan of Troy, Illinois; grandson, Daniel Hancock of Ames; sister, Marilee Wyatt of St. James, Minnesota and many other family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Bob Bane, age 92 of Pleasantville, will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Monday at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Christian Church or to the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108.
