February 6, 1933 - January 11, 2015

James Robert Shores, age 81 of Cowan, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Southern Tennessee Regional Medical Center in Winchester. Born in Manchester, Tennessee to the late Joseph and Alice Pebbles (LaFevers) Shores.

He is survived by his wife Betty Shores, daughters Glenda Shores Harris (Denny), Faye Shores Ralston (Scott) of Winchester; sons, Greg Shores of Belvidere and Garry Shores of Cowan; brother, Howard Clayton Shores of Manchester; six grandchildren Justin Vaughn Harris (Katie), Randy (Jennifer) Prince, Melanie (Billy) Chipman, Shannon (Martin) Stephens, Ethan Shores and Holli Shores; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son James Vaughn Shores, brothers, Leonard Winnell (Rena), Elmer Brooks (E. B) (Joyce), Wilburn Tamer (Ethel), and J.C. Shores (Willie), and sisters Margaret Josephine (Jody) Davis (Bob) and Odie Helen Price (Jim). Robert graduated from Central High School, Coffee County TN in 1951. The year 1953 brought momentous changes to Robert, he married the love of his life and enlisted in the US Army. His service took him to post war Germany where he was stationed with the 5th Infantry Division. In the US Army Robert rose to the rank of Corporal. Ten years later he rejoined the service as a member of the Tennessee National Guard. From 1963 to 1987, Robert served our state and country diligently, rising to the rank of Sargent First Class (E-7). Notably, Robert served with the Headquarters and Service Company of the 115th Artillery, and the State Headquarters Service Detachment at the Tullahoma Training Site. Robert served expertly, as one of the Range Control Coordinators. Robert was also employed as an Iron Worker at the Y12 Plant in Oak Ridge, and for 27 years he labored at Wilson Sporting Goods Factory in Tullahoma. Robert loved his wife, his family and his church. His decades long battle with lung disease and blindness through macular degeneration did not diminish his humor and determination to care for his beloved wife, Betty.

Visitation will be from 11-1 Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Cowan Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM with Rev. Bobby Hancock officiating.
