Donna Kern, age 49, of Silver Lake, formerly of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, with interment following at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 3, 2017, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Tuesday.
Donna Jean Kern was born on May 9, 1967, in Glencoe, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Martin and Leone (Jaster) Kern.  Donna was baptized as an infant on May 28, 1967, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 2, 1982, both by Rev. Harold A. Bode at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota.  Donna received her education in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, graduating with the Class of 1985. 
On August 26, 1989, Donna was united in marriage to Steven Vanderlinde by Rev. Steven Vaudt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Donna and Steven made their home in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. They shared 3 years of marriage until Steven passed away on November 22, 1992.
Donna worked in Shakopee, Minnesota. Then Donna bought a motel and RV park in Nevis, Minnesota, working there for 8 years before selling it. She bought her dream home by Nevis, Minnesota.  She worked in housekeeping at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Her favorite areas to clean were the Surgery Department, Radiology Department and mopping the hospital kitchen and cafeteria. She also loved cleaning other areas of the hospital. On her days off she enjoyed cleaning homes for ladies she became friends with. Donna enjoyed gardening and landscaping. Her children were her beloved dogs. Donna cherished the time spent with her friends and family.
Donna passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 49 years, 10 months and 21 days.

Donna is survived by her: Brothers, Clifford Kern and his wife, Barb, of Lester Prairie, MN,David Kern and his wife, Brenda, of Lester Prairie, MN, Earl Kern and his wife, Elmira, of Lester Prairie, MN, Roger Kern of Silver Lake, MN; Nieces and Nephews, Jeremiah (Lynne) Kern, Sally (Chris) Homuth, Ryan (Patti) Kern, Joshua (fiancée, Kayla) Kern, John (Jacky) Kern, Angela (Pat) Lorentz; Nieces and Nephews, Bryana, Ethan, Jared, Jayden, Austin, Alexis, Reese, Finley, Rowan, Henry, Charlie, William, Wyatt and Benjamin; Other relatives and many friends.
Donna is preceded in death by her Husband, Steven Vanderlinde; Parents, Martin and Leone Kern; Sister, Louise Kern; as well as aunts and uncles.

Donna worked in Shakopee for a time, and then bought a motel and RV park in Nevis, working there for eight years before selling it, and buying her dream home by Nevis.
She worked in housekeeping at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, and enjoyed cleaning the surgery, and radiology departments, and mopping the hospital kitchen and cafeteria.

Travis Loeslie officiated at the service, and the organist was Nancy Buckentine. Soloist Chuck Thiel performed “Amazing Grace,” “One Day At A Time,” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock Of Ages.”
Donna’s nieces and nephews were her casket bearers: Ryan Kern, Jeremiah Kern, John Kern, Joshua Kern, Sally Homuth, and Angela Lorentz.
