Myrtle Kestner Smith, 79, of Gainesville, Florida, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Washington County, Virginia, and raised in Orange, Virginia, graduating from Orange County High School.Myrtle was the daughter of the late Scott and Lottie Kestner of Orange.
She retired from the University of Florida.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith.
Survivors include her son, Joseph Smith of Gainesville; her daughter, Debra Nielsen (Brent) of West Plains, Mo.; a sister, Esther Day of Henrico; brothers, Jimmy Kestner of Orange and Clyde Kestner of Williamsburg; and nephew, Mark Kestner and family of Barboursville.
Myrtle was a member of the Scotchtown Chapter NSDAR.
