Mary Jane (Thompson) Swenson lived a month shy of 92 meaningful years. She was born in Luverne, MN to her parents, Ole Thompson and Ragna Esther (Olsen) Thompson. Mary passed away while in hospice care in Rock Rapids, IA. As a teenager, Mary met her husband, John Swenson while working at a nearby farm. John laid eyes on a young, beautiful brunette, and the rest was history. They married on June 18, 1940, and moved to a farm in Luverne.

Soon after having their first son, Jerry, John joined the Army and moved the family to Arkansas. Years later after returning to Minnesota, John and Mary had another son, John Jr., followed by a daughter, Linda. Within 2 years of Linda's birth, John's sister-in-law sadly passed, but they were blessed to adopt their beautiful niece, Dorothy. John and Mary, along with their four children, moved to Sioux Falls, SD where John worked as a Ford tractor mechanic. The family eventually relocated to Minneapolis and bought a nice home. Over the years, while John supported the family as a heavy equipment operator for Bolanders, Mary worked various jobs. For a while, she worked evenings making pizzas. Family fondly recalls her impressive 'spinning the dough' skills! Mary also worked sewing shirts and socks at Munsingwear for some time. She was blessed with timeless beauty, and made some side money for the family modeling for the Sears catalog. Other than her most prized job, being a mother, she was very proud to settle into her long-time, 30-year employment with Honeywell. Mary worked in the 'Clean Room' handling and preparing the small micro chips for airplanes, and even learned to operate an Apple computer. Most of her stories during this time were focused around helping and advocating for others, as the Union Steward. She often went to bat for fellow union members having Company issues. Mary was so proud of the Honeywell watch she received at retirement.

Mary loved music. Mary loved to waltz with her dance partner, John, even in the middle of their living room. When their was a dance hall show on PBS, they would turn it on at the house. Often Mary would stand up and if her man didn't jump to the opportunity, any lucky family member was chosen to enjoy a dance with her. The smiles and bonding in these moments will be forever treasured. Mary was also the queen of garage sales, bargain hunting, and negotiating the deal.

Mary and John now having a large family of married kids, grandchildren, and even grandchildren, would host the family holidays at their home. Mary cooked amazing meals, while her husband did the baking. She always kept a welcoming, warm home. Family & friends were most important. She was always concerned with her family's safety. She liked to know everyone was home and safe inside.

Some time after retirement, Mary and John sold their home in Minneapolis and moved back to Luverne. Within a few years, they settled into their final home together, Beaver Creek, where they lived the next 23 years.

Over Mary's final years, she struggled with Dementia. Her forever and only love had passed away, but she never stopped remembering him. She would ask where he was, that he should get in for dinner, and even confused her roomie for her husband, trying to crawl into bed to cuddle with him. Today they are in Heaven, loving the Lord, looking down proudly on each of us and what they have created together, and once again dancing in each other's arms. Mary loved our Heavenly Father, and often prayed for her family and loved ones. She loved and strongly believed in the power of prayer.

Mary is survived by her four children: Jerry (Judith) Swenson of Pocatello, ID, John Jr. (Joyce) Swenson of Bonners Ferry, ID, Linda (Thomas) Swanson of Beaver Creek, & Dorothy Swenson of Minneapolis. Mary has 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Arthur E. Johnson, Gorge R. Johnson, and Orville Thompson; and sisters, Amelia Ruth Johnson, Esther Thompson, Lewelia Thompson, Alvira Thompson, Betsy Ferguson, Edna Esther Johnson, Lewella Johnson, Annie Dhamers, and Minnie Bendt.
