Hezekiah was a son of Thomas and Sarah Applegate.
He was a Revolutionary War Soldier and at some time during the years 1778-1783 served as a frontier ranger from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, as he is listed among a company of men under the command of Captain Philip Rogers. For this service Hezekiah received depreciation pay from Pennsylvania.
Hezekiah was also a Baptist and took a leading part in the organization of the Thompson Settlement Baptist Church which was constituted in December 1800. He was chosen the first clerk, January, the fourth Saturday, 1801, and was one of the most prominent and leading members for several years. The church held their meetings on Saturday for one year in 1802 "at the house of Brother Hezekiah Applegate" and at the Meeting House on the Sabbath. They frequently held the Saturday meetings at the house of Mr. Applegate.
The third Saturday in March 1816, Hezekiah was chosen to the Pastoral care of the church. After serving as pastor for several months, in September 1816, he requested a letter of commendation for a traveling excursion with his ministerial gift. The letter was granted. After several months he returned and on the first Saturday in April, 1817, he was chosen moderator, and in November of the same year, he was appointed a delegate to the association.
Hezekiah was first married to Mezlia Douthit on 24 SEPT 1763 in Pennsylvania. Together they had the following children: Nathaniel, Aaron, Samuel, Mary and Hezekiah.
Hezekiah was then also married to Sarah "Susan" Britton abt 1795 in Montgomery, Viginia. Together they had the following children: Thomas Jefferson, Susannah Catherine, Nancy, James Monroe, Delilah, Rachel and Samantha.
