Esther McConnell, 83, of Carthage, Mo., went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Monday, March 27, 2017, while staying at Oak Pointe of Carthage.

She was born in Purdy, Mo., on November 7, 1933, the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Schad) Petlitzer.
She was united in marriage in 1960 to Jack Morton; he preceded her in death in 1977.

She later met and was united in marriage in 1982 to Charles McConnell; he preceded her in death in 1994.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Hughey Jay Morton, in 1984, and three brothers.

She was a 1951 graduate of Purdy High School, where she was a varsity athlete. She was a mother, grandmother, and a hard worker up until the day she retired. She was a member of the Good Shepher Lutheran Church in Carthage for many years. She loved being surrounded by her family and her dog, Tinker. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling.

Esther is survived by her beloved dog, Tinker; one brother, Leroy Petlitzer; four grandchildren, Carrie Christiansen, of Phoenix, Ariz., Derek Morton, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Jessi Medeiros, of Joplin, Mo., and Chelsea Hobbs, of Webb City, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Esther is being held on Friday March 31, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett, Mo., with funeral services to immediately follow visitation at 11 a.m. with James Schnackenberg officiating. Burial will follow services at the Sparks Cemetery in Butterfield, Mo.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett.
