The service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert F. Koller Funeral Home Inc., 2000 W. Market St., York. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Viewing will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Koller Funeral Home. The Geiple Funeral Home Inc., Glen Rock, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Deitz was born on July 18, 1918, in York. He was the son of the late Robert W. and Emma J. (Cooper) Deitz.
He was employed as a supervisory inspector with York City Department of Public Works for 10 years, until his retirement. Prior to that he had operated the then Cherry Top soda fountain on South Queen Street for over 25 years.
In his younger years, her performed and danced with many of the ""Big Bands'' of the 1930s and 1940s, when he was known for orginating the ""Big Apple'' dance step.
Mr. Deitz was recipient of an award from the City of York for his outstanding service to the community, having been involved in the Quaker Meeting House restoration and other projects.
He also was a former president of the Mount Rose Lions Club, in which he was active in numerous of the club's community programs. He also served as a former chairman of the York County Solid Waste Authority.
Mr. Deitz also is survived by five daughters, Linda C. Wetzel and Marlea I. Miller, both of York, Constance E. Jacobs of Red Lion, Victoria Kassens of Danville, Ill., and Sandra Jason of Lansing, Mich.; two sons, David A. Deitz of York, and Gary Deitz of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Donald J. Deitz of York.
