In the name of God Amen, I, Zachariah Leigh, of the Parish of Saint Patrick, and county of Prince Edward, being sensible of the uncertainty of this life as of my advanced age, and death is certain of all, do make and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, revoking all former wills by me hence forth made, and submitting to the ensuing hand of providence, I yield my soul, and commit the same to almighty God, believing remission of sins and everlasting life, by the merits death and passion of Jesus Christ my Lord, and only Savior, and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent private manner, by my friends Paschal Greenhill, Thomas Scott, Clements Read, and John Nash Junior, whom I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint executors, of this my last will and testament, It is my desire that my just debts be paid out of such of my personal estate, as my executors shall deem convenient to dispose of.

I Give and bequeath all my slaves and personal estate to my beloved Grandchildren that my son John Leigh, now has or may have, by his present wife, Elizabeth, to be divided how and when my executors shall think most suitable and convenient, who are hereby advised to keep continued the same together on the land on which I now live, and the profits arising there from to be laid out by them, in purchasing suitable slaves or lands as action may require, for the use and purpose aforesaid, except so much there of, as they may at any time adjudged necessary for the maintenance of education of my said grandchildren, or for there relieving of the necessities of my son JOHN, his present wife, or either of them, that may happen, I leave to the prudence and decision of my executors aforesaid mentioned, and through my executors are required to keep the aforesaid estate together, yet they are not hereto meant to be refrained from allotting to any of my said Grandchildren as they come of age, or marry, so much out of the profit of the estate as they shall judge convenient or fit, having regards the last decision to every allotment as before made by proper deduction then or if necessary.

I give and devise the tract of land whereon I now Live, to my grandsons, Zachariah Greenhill Leigh and Paschal Greenhill Leigh, to be equally divided by my executors and their Heirs, for as much as it may be advantage of my two grandsons the land was sold, and other lands purchased up the country for the same use and purpose as the above and should my executors judge most advantage of my estate, and Grandsons, then they are devised and desire by me, and it is my pleasure that the land be sold at any time before my grandson Zachariah Greenhill Leigh, comes of age, as my executors shall judge convenient or fit, and the lands purchased to the amount their land sold for, the aforesaid subject to the use of my executors for the purpose of working my slaves there on, for the right of my grandchildren aforesaid, as long as they shall see convenient or expedient.

It is my desire that Great Sambo and Pheby his wife, be continued at my sons, to help support my grandchildren and it is my desire that the estate that is between Captain David Greenhill and myself, that particular part to be the maintenance of my son and his wife and their family. Family lore has it that a brick walled family cemetery once existed there, but the bricks were carried off. I do not know if this is true. Perhaps the map would give some outline of its one-time location. I do not know the property owner(s) although several years ago I met one owner who lived nearby. I have forgotten her name. She attended Sharon Baptist Church and was kind enough to let me purchase a copy of the interesting history of that church. I realize that any owners may not want to grant access to strangers for visiting a cemetery. In this day of lawsuits, who can blame them.

There is a cemetery roughly matching your description on the King Farm on Leigh Mountain. Specifically it was once surrounded by a wall and some of the material is still there. It is very old and may not contain stones with any writing on them, but that remains to be seen. Willard Evans lives next door to the King Farm and has agreed to show us the cemetery as soon as it can be arranged. This is very weather dependent as it is very windy up there and the cemetery is about a mile off the road. Bev and I plan to go there ASAP. The woman from Sharon Church that your referred to has to be Mary Jenkins, a well known expert on local history. She lives on Rt. 619 near Sharon Church. Dr. Ray A.
