US Congressman. Although educated in medicine, he was admitted to the bar in 1839 and commenced law practice in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia. He was a solicitor general of the southern Georgia in 1843, member of the State senate in 1849 and elected judge of the State superior court for the southern circuit in 1853. In 1859, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress and served until his retirement in 1861. He resumed the practice of law and was member of the Georgia State house of representatives until his death.
