Born on April 17, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Bernard R. Simon and Anna Mae McDonald Simon, Reverend Simon grew up in the Catholic Church and later served as a Methodist Pastor for the United Methodist Church. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and became a Methodist Minister in 1994. His last church for which he was the pastor was Shiloh United Methodist Church in Forest, Va. He retired in the early 2000s after leading several to the Lord and always presenting the gospel.
He loved to ice skate as a teenager and played football in high school. He was also a DJ in the 60s and 70s. He served in the United StatesNavy during the Korean War as well as on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier (CVA-42).
He is survived by his sister, Sally Ohler; three nieces; one nephew; and nine grand nieces and grand nephews and their families.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby "Grace" S.R. Simon.
A celebration of the Reverend Simon's life will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg followed by a graveside service with military honors at Culpeper National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
