Cornelius Christopher Little was born in February 1789 in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, Ireland, the son of Philip Little and Margaret Leonard. Following some rebellious activity in Ireland, he fled the country and landed up in Prince Edward Island, where he farmed at Summerside. He married Bridget Costin, daughter of Irish parents who farmed nearby, on February 19, 1816. They had 11 children in 19 years,9 of whom survived to adulthood. Three of his sons became lawyers and distinguished themselves in politics in PEI and in Newfoundland. A fourth son became a leading surgeon in Dublin. He died on September 4, 1864, in Charlottetown, PEI, in the company of his wife and eldest daughter, having lived a long life of 75 years. There are records of a shattered gravestone on PEI, on which the words "Charlottetown Pioneer" can be made out (lot 33 cmt 13 stone 5-1). His name is engraved on a headstone at Belvedere RC Cemetery in St John's, Newfoundland, where his wife and several of his sons and daughters are also buried (Section VIII).
