George Tyler Herndon Jr., age 91, of Keymar, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his daughter's home in Greencastle, PA. Born September 29, 1925 in Luray, VA, he was the son of the late George T. and Lucy McNeally Herndon. He was the husband of Emma Jane Mullineaux Herndon, his wife of 69 years.

Mr. Herndon was a dairy farmer in Frederick County for many years. He was a member of the Johnsville United Methodist Church and the Johnsville Ruritan Club. He enjoyed woodworking, Orioles baseball, as well as tractor and steam engine shows. He enjoyed listening to old time country/bluegrass gospel music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Allen Herndon and wife Beverly of Keymar, Laurie Dorsey and husband Michael of Middletown; Dottie Rebert and husband Phil of Greencastle; 8 grandchildren, Diana Crum and husband Jeff, Elaina Moore and husband Steve, Daniel Herndon and wife Beth, Paul Dorsey and wife Eleanor, David Dorsey and wife Sarah, Cindy Logsdon and husband Jasen, Amy Rebert and Timothy Rebert; 18 great grandchildren, Tyler, Caleb, Nathan, Andrew, Matthew and Emily Crum; Madeline and Anna Moore; Zachary, Sebastian, Gracie, Jadyn, Evelyn and Ashlyn Herndon; Parker Dorsey; Caroline, Gavin and Allison Logsdon. He was predeceased by brothers, Richard, William and Douglas Herndon.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1 at Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., with Rev. Margaret Moon, church pastor and Timothy Rebert, Mr. Herndon's grandson, officiating. Interment will follow in Johnsville United Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 31 at Hartzler Funeral Home,11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., Union Bridge, MD 21791.
