Wesley Carter, age 79, of Alma passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at St Joseph’s Candler Hospital in Savannah after a short illness. He was son of the late Lewis D. Carter and Eula Waters Carter and preceded in death by three sisters, Etwenda Carter Peacock, Nelda Boatright and Glenda Deen.
Wesley was a member of Ten Miles Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and former song leader. He was a former employee at the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant in Baxley, GA. for many years, he was a farmer, very talented in carpentry and well know Artist. He loved his family, his church and church family, along with his many friends. Wesley truly loved his farm life and many animals that were special to him and also enjoyed writing songs and playing his guitar.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Clara Strickland Carter, Denise Carter, Angie Carter and Sonja Carter all of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Gill, Robert Wigley and Rev. Jason Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 PM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Eddie O’Neal, David Strickland, Mike Boatright, Sammy Peacock, Greg Boatright and Rodney Deen. Honorary pallbearers will be; T-Boy Carter, Bill and Edward Jordan, Scott Taylor, Duck Taylor, Jeffery Carter, Rodney Wilson and all other in attendance.
