Joseph Strauss Layton Jr, age 85, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017.

He was born in Red Bank, NJ and lived there until moving to Manchester, NJ. He worked for the US Postal Service there for 38 years. He was a lifetime volunteer fireman with the Navesink Hook & Ladder Company in Red Bank and was a charter member of the Red Bank Fire Department Underwater Recovery Team. He also served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He loved to fly and was a licensed pilot and flight instructor. For the past 17 years he lived in Leisure Knoll in Manchester and was very active in many of the community clubs.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean; his step-daughter, Kim Collins and her husband, Stephen; his step-son Steven Zarkowski, and his wife Judy. At his specific request, there will not be a wake or service. He will be remembered and celebrated during a private gathering of his family.

Joe was a good man and if you wish to remember him, he asks that you do something nice for someone else as that is always what he did.
