Crossed into Union held territory and volunteered for the 1st New Orleans Infantry Regiment at Ft. Pike, Louisiana. Was a Pvt in B Co. and stationed in New Orleans until Jan 1865 when he contracted Small Pox and died in the Greenville General Hospital. He is buried in the U.S. National Military Cemetery in Chalmette. His father, Lewis Addison "Little Berry" Parker, applied for his Union Army Pension in 1868 and his mother, Mary Parker, applied in 1890.
